Dimensioning of HVDC Cable Terminations: Experience in Europe by Andre Wagner
Site Pollution Severity at substations is often not fully clarified and dimensioning and placement of components such as cable terminations become the responsibility of their supplier. But such an approach can sometimes results in outdoor terminations having to be placed indoors. In the case of a 525 kV HVDC station, this type of situation could also have significant impact on costs related to visual impact and land requirements arising from the height of cable terminations. This presentation explains the research methodology used to assess SPS in a specific north European coastal area and details how this information was then used in dimensioning HVDC cable terminations for this service environment.
