Condition Assessment of Long Length MV Underground Cable Using Dual Side Offline PD Measurement by Mohd Azraei Bin Pangah

Electricity is distributed to end customers in Malaysia through TNB’s Distribution Network Division, whose backbone is a MV underground cable network. With increasing level of economic activity, it is crucial to ensure this network is reliable and one of the initiatives in this regard has been introducing Damped AC Dual Side Offline Partial Discharge as one of the condition-based maintenance tools. This presentation explains the typical set-up as well as how this maintenance tool is able to detect and locate PD for long length MV power cable and also describes experience to date.
